As lively as it is environmentally friendly: this, in short, is the character of the new Mercedes A Class 250e, an electrified version of the German five-door launched in 2018 and – as the letter e of the initials indicates – the first plug-in hybrid model (ie: rechargeable also via cable, by connecting to a column or to the domestic wallbox, as well as in motion, with the recovery of the energy that develops in the braking and deceleration phases) of the range. The compact car (the length of 442 centimeters, by 180 in width and 144 in height) has a very sleek line, there is no lack of space both in the passenger compartment and in the trunk (ranging from 355 liters to 1.195) and has the quality , in the materials and finishes, recognized by the brand. That it is a technologically advanced project is understood as soon as you sit behind the wheel and your eye falls on the displays that dominate the dashboard. But not just appearance: the equally innovative substance. First of all, let’s talk about the system that combines the 1.3-liter, 163-horsepower turbocharged petrol engine with the 102-horsepower electric unit, which develops a total power of 218 horsepower, with 450 Nm of maximum torque. All this translates into a sprint from 0 to 100 per hour in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 235 km / h.
CO2 emissions are equal to 32 grams / km and approved consumption, in the hybrid cycle, of 1-1.3 liters / 100 km of petrol (17.1-19.1 kWh / 100 km), with a range declared in full electric mode which varies from 60 to 70 kilometers. In reality, in everyday life, actual fuel consumption is in the order of 3-4 liters per 100 kilometers, which in any case are an excellent result. While the full recharge of the 15.6 kW battery allows you to really travel, with zero emissions (at the exhaust), just over fifty kilometers, this is also a very respectable result. In short, the A 250e manages to combine environmental responsibility with the dynamic pleasure of driving, due to the panache of the engine, the efficiency of the suspension and brakes, and finally the promptness of the steering. The standard charger supplied as standard with the car allows a complete recharge from a domestic system in about 6 hours, while with the optional 20 kW rapid system (costs about 500 euros, but it is necessary to adapt the home electrical network) a full charge drops one hour. The A 250e is also offered with a four-door body, 15 centimeters longer. Prices start at € 42,397. But there is always the bonus.
