Aero 3 a custom-built model inspired by sporty luxury of the thirties. The double grille, the tapered car body and the unnoticeable front air intake bring out the cleanliness of the side. The impressive hood, with vents, sculpted and muscular – says Louis de Fabribeckers, director of the Touring Style Center – anticipates and tickles the imagination, promising exceptional performance. Behind the plate space on the left and will become the signature of all future Touring Superleggera.
The adjustable rear fin and reports to wind profiling designed by Touring Superleggera who first used the wind tunnel to get feedback on the aerodynamic theories of the time. The fin was born as a natural extension and an extremization of the teardrop shape of the passenger compartment, explains de Fabribeckers. For the bodywork of the first Aero 3, the owner chose the Stratosphere Red color. Number 19 is an evocation of the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Le Mans, which competed in 1938 driven by Clemente Biondetti and Raymond Somner and currently exhibited at the Alfa Museum in Arese.
This is the first full carbon bodywork by Touring. The thicknesses and orientation of the fibers are designed to achieve the best weight-stiffness ratio, strength, appearance and quality, including ease of repair in the event of an accident. Touring Superleggera craftsmen and engineers dedicate over 5,000 hours of work to each unit produced.
The interior design reinforces the wraparound effect typical of sports cars, the Foglizzo leather and the characteristic processing accentuate the feeling of comfort. Aluminum, the main material of Touring creations – notes de Fabribeckers -, highlighted with touches of black, glossy and matte, which highlight precious details of the passenger compartment.
The first example of Touring Aero 3 uses the spaceframe chassis of the donor car, which in this case a noble Italian sports car with a front-mounted 12-cylinder V engine, fully maintained in its mechanical, electrical and electronic characteristics. Before getting to construction, Touring carries out the engineering study of each piece with particular attention to safety, structural evaluations and aerodynamics.
Touring Aero 3 a payback after the difficulties the first months of the year that put a strain on the entire automotive sector – says Salvatore Stranci, new General Manager of Touring Superleggera -.
