The auction of the 5G frequency bands, necessary for operators to launch the new mobile generation, will begin on September 29, announced Sébastien Soriano, president of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications, Posts and Press Distribution (Arcep), Monday September 7 on franceinfo.
“The auctions will take place. They will begin on September 29 and they will last as long as the different operators compete and increase the prices to have a more or less important quantity of frequencies”, he said.
Initially scheduled for mid-April, the procedure had been postponed due to the coronavirus. Then Arcep specified that the sale would take place between September 20 and 30, without however giving the exact date. 5G should make it possible to multiply the capacities of mobile telephony.
