A little car and a little bike. You pedal and drive like a recumbent, there are four wheels, a shell with a sunroof and you can load a child or a few shopping bags. It’s called Future Mobility and the concept designed by Canyon, the German bicycle manufacturer. An idea aimed at the not too distant future of urban mobility.

The advantages over the car are in the possibility of taking advantage of the cycle paths and avoiding traffic and queues. The advantages over a bicycle are of course the four wheels, the presence of a body that protects against bad weather, a heating system and the possibility of loading several kilograms of luggage without questioning the stability of the vehicle. It is therefore a means that approaches the two extremes of urban commuting.

The track measures 760 mm, features 20 ”wheels with 415×50 tires and a turning radius of 7 m. As anticipated, it can accommodate a passenger up to 140 cm tall or a baggage with a volume of about three boxes of water. The space created behind the driver’s seat, which slides on a track and reclines like those of a car, allowing access to the rear compartment. To deter thieves, the Future Mobility Concept can only be opened and switched on by connecting your smartphone.

Being able to circulate both on the road and on the cycle paths, there are two distinct driving modes (Road and Bike Lane) which regulate speed within the limits permitted by law. Of course, the connected Future Mobility Concept and all its functions can be controlled via smartphone, housed on the center console, between the knees.
