The popular youthful TikTok app is supposed to be banned in the US since Saturday August 1, although it still works on Monday August 3. Donald Trump assures us that it would pose risks to national security. Is it technically different from others like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram?

“The TikTok app has access to all multimedia content, be it audio, video – including the front camera – but also the phone’s address book and all of the storage.”, explains Bastien Bobe, Technical Director Southern Europe at Lookout. According to him, “TikTok, although improving, still poses risks in terms of managing the privacy and personal data of its users”.
