This is a scam whose numbers are startling. The scandal over Wirecard is escalating in Germany. This company specializing in online payment was unmasked last June: it had tampered with its figures. In total, almost 2 billion euros announced by the company do not actually exist. Its stock market share then fell 98% and the company ended up going bankrupt.
The first consequences have taken place. The boss of Wirecard, as well as several company executives, were remanded in custody. Thursday, July 30, this time it was up to the German government to account. MEPs asked how a fraud of this magnitude could have been possible. Amid the turmoil, Chancellor Angela Merkel could see the opposition calling for the establishment of a parliamentary commission of inquiry.
