For years the best-selling station wagon in Europe, the Skoda Octavia now in its fourth generation. Updated in the design, content and offer of the engines, it maintains its distinctive connotation: the excellent quality / price ratio. Characteristic underlying the success of the wagon (or Combi, as the manufacturer defines it).
The new Skoda Octavia Wagon
This fourth series features even more discreet and elegant lines. A stylistic language that, they say in Skoda, will accompany all the next novelties of the Czech brand. Longer than the previous version (now just under 4 meters and 70 cm), more spacious and welcoming with a boot with a minimum capacity of 640 liters, a value that places it at the top of its category. In the interior, the digital dashboard with large touch screens, the infotainment system and the new steering wheel with 14 integrated functions dominate the scene. Among the news, the head-up display (optional), which projects the main driving information on the windshield in front of the driver, and the three-zone Climatronic air conditioner. Also included are numerous Adas, safety systems: automatic speed regulator, emergency braking, road sign recognition and more. Up to nine airbags, including the one for the driver’s knees and the rear side ones.
As for the engines, in addition to the usual petrol proposals (the most powerful, the RS, reaches 245 horsepower), diesel and natural gas, the mild hybrid (light hybrid) and plug-in hybrid versions (rechargeable, with a declared autonomy in electric mode of 60 km) of 204 hp will arrive in the range of the new Octavia within the year.
The test of the new Octavia Wagon it took place on the roads that border the suggestive hills of the province of Verona in a crescendo of curves, delightful valleys and beautiful vineyards. The tested version will probably be among the most requested despite the difficult period that diesel engines are going through: the 2-liter turbodiesel in the 150 hp configuration in combination with the seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. With a torque of 360 Nm, it has a honeyed and very linear output.
