Among western European countries, Portugal was until then a model in terms of how to manage the coronavirus pandemic. In the spring, while Spain, France and even Italy deplored the thousands of deaths, less than 2,000 people lost their lives in the country. But for several days, Portugal has reported a resurgence of the Covid-19. The region around its capital, Lisbon, is again confined.
In particular, gatherings of more than ten people are again prohibited. “Until now, the Portuguese police have imposed few fines for breach of confinement. It counted on the real civic health of its population. From now on, anyone who participates in an unauthorized rally will be fined 350 euros“, explains journalist Maryse Burgot, from Lisbon.
