Since the beginning of May, Germany has been gradually falling apart. The Länder, having responsibility for the health crisis, are gradually authorizing the reopening of cafes and restaurants according to very specific rules. A photo, in particular, was enormously shared on social networks and by numerous international media to prove the impact of the new distancing measures on daily life. It shows several customers sitting on the terrace of a cafe in Schwerin, in the north-east of the country, wearing funny hats.
In France, the television channel BFM TV even broadcast a report indicating that the Café Rothe “ had an idea for customers to stay away from each other: offer them to wear hats and chips. Despite the many first-degree comments about the price you pay to be allowed to drink coffee on the terrace again, you don’t have to wear this ridiculous hat to be able to sit in this establishment.
In reality, the images of BFM TV were filmed by the German television channel RTL on May 10 for a report. But in the commentary, the German journalist reveals that the hats-fries are not an initiative of the cafe but of the television channel: ” To be honest, it was not the cafe owner who invented the distancing hat, it was us! Our reporter wanted to see how people would react if we put 1.50 meter pool fries on their heads ” Not too bad if you believe the amused reactions of the Germans trapped by the journalist.
