An economic and social aggregate that invoices 50 billion euros per year. It weighs 3 percent of the national GDP. I employ over 120,000 people, and breathe in their families. They are car dealers. Better: companies that sell and organize the assistance of cars, commercial, industrial and bus vehicles, and operate on the basis of a mandate from the car manufacturers. A world that the health emergency devastated with the impact of a meteorite. Federauto, the union of dealers, speaks of an unprecedented crisis.
The closure of Italy, because this is what it is – says Adolfo De Stefani Cosentino, president of Federauto – has led to the fall of new car registrations and for used vehicles the situation does not change. Between March and April the market will lose 350 thousand pieces, with a probable drop of 60% on an annual basis if the measures in force today continue. And very worrying about the maintenance of employment in dealerships: in the period 2007-2019, with a drop in sales of over 23%, about 30 thousand workers lost their jobs. early to draw conclusions, but we cannot be optimistic.
What would be needed? Of the government support, the answer. We appreciate the measures on layoffs – explains De Stefani Cosentino – but they are insufficient to face a situation in which complex companies must be governed, set on volumes of activity that nobody knows when they can be reached again. For this reason, we have asked the Prime Minister and Parliament for some changes to the Cura Italia Decree to put all our companies, small, medium and large, in the condition of accessing the liquidity – the most urgent need – necessary to achieve this moment of great difficulty.
But there is not only the request for help from the government in the head of the dealers. There are also customers. And Federauto addresses them with a video in which it summarizes all the values of our companies, explains De Stefani Cosentino. A message that says: we are there, to share together. Aware of the gravity and complexity of the periodand despite the blockage of activities since 11 March, dealers are always at the service of customers, committed to keeping companies alive, with passion, dedication and maximum energy. That same energy, #ilmotoreitaliano that for over a hundred years has ensured the country the precious asset of mobility, which wants to continue to move citizens, businesses and institutions.
We combine generations and experiences in 1,500 companies and family businesses, an economic engine that overall produces 80 billion in tax revenues in the state coffers – underlines Adolfo De Stefani Cosentino, president of Federauto -. Today the country seems to have stopped, but our commitment always alongside local communities and those who work in an emergency. We are ready to put the country in motion again and resume the journey of the history of Italy, writing it with the freedom of the mobility of people and companies.
