He too has been locked in the house for a month. But Alessandro Gassmann says he is lucky because “at least here I have a little space to stay outdoors and enjoy a few flashes of nature”. Here means in Tuscany. It is not an escape: he usually visits the countryside. Environmentalist? Also, without fanaticism. But very careful. With the tendency to make his passions more sustainable. With his electric motorcycle, Alessandro moves both in the city, in Rome, and in the Tuscan countryside. She is a Californian Zero Fx.
How long have you used it?

“One year. It is extraordinary in design, performance and ease of driving. And then, being very silent, it allows me to get closer to animals. In the woods around here there are many and moving without making noise is an advantage ».
Did you inherit the passion from your father Vittorio?

«No, every now and then he used a Vespa, but he loved beautiful cars and loved speed, even if he wasn’t a driver! Certain journeys I will never forget, both for the terror and for the inconvenience of being curled up on the rear seat of the Porsche with which he occasionally brought us from Rome to the Dolomites in times unimaginable today ».
When did you start riding motorbikes?
«At 14: a Vespa, then the Boxer, the Yes, a Honda Cb Four 400, many scooters. Now I have a Vespa 150 for the city and this Zero, which I also use in Rome, with extreme caution: people don’t hear you coming and sometimes they get scared. A command noise like “real bike” would not hurt. ”
The beauty of a motorcycle like this?

“The environmental impact and the sensations in the saddle. Zero emissions and phenomenal acceleration. Someone says that autonomy is a limit, but I think it is more of a problem for cars. ”
What do you mean?
«With a bike like this I go for a ride and go home – only once did I have to push it … -, where it is not difficult to have space to get on tap. But in Rome with a car, the shortage of parking lots and public charging stations adds the incivility of those who park in front of us without having title, making them unusable. So I bought a hybrid car, currently the most efficient solution. ”
Do you like traveling as a couple or alone?
«I really enjoy the motorbike by myself. It is a very physical, almost erotic relationship, which is best lived away from prying eyes. The bike requires respect and you need the skills to ride it well. And the inconvenience doesn’t hurt: it helps concentration ».
A motorcycle-themed film and book to suggest for these cloistered days.
«The film is Easy Rider. I was very close to Peter Fonda, he was able to tell very well an era of great freedom. The book is On the road, by Jack Kerouac, another nice way to escape in this period ».
The trip you would like to do … as soon as possible?

“I would do the coast to coast of the United States, leaving the classic route behind: starting from New York, passing through Chicago, passing Canada and going down to San Francisco … Maybe with an electric motorbike”.
