Greece has been confined since Monday March 23 at 6 a.m. and failure to do so is subject to a fine of 150 euros. So decided Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, faced with the epidemic of coronavirus Covid-19 which threatens the mainland of Greece but especially the Greek islands.

All transport reduced and very controlled. Transport is reduced and very controlled, as much by land, air and sea, and arrivals in Greece are confined for a period of 14 days with a ban on leaving their place of residence.

For residents, only essential outings are authorized. These measures taken by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis did not shock the Greeks and were even encouraged. Thus, this recent Prime Minister, elected last July, has just marked his political presence in Greece, while many Greeks and observers “awaited” this new Prime Minister on his governance.

But the example of Italy had to accelerate the decision of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, a rapid reaction to the health situation in Greece, where its hospital and medical system has been more than weakened since the economic and financial crisis of 2008 , and this for 10 years. The Greek health system is badly damaged by the debt crisis. For Kyriakos Mitsotakis, it’s about saving time over time.

From the arrival of the crisis in Greece, the country underwent for a decade the decisions of the IMF and the Troika, ruining Greece and the Greeks, destroying the economic, educational, health fabric, causing the flight of Greeks to the foreigner, among others many doctors; it was a veritable laboratory of economic eugenics which brought about the collapse of the Greek health system, with the maneuvering of a number of anti-Greek positions in Europe, especially coming from Berlin, the Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries.

The highly impacted public service is on the brink of ruin, Greece for example, has only half the beds of the European average, and is in short supply of everything that can help fight the coronavirus epidemic. For Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the battle for at least two months has started.

It must be said that the Greeks, having suffered the crisis of 2008 are showing discipline and solidarity, including among islanders. And in this country where the church is not separate from the state, Kyriakos Mitsotakis had to confront the religious authorities who, in the middle of Lent, when we know that the feast of Easter is the most important of Orthodoxy , refused to close the churches.

It is done, not without difficulty, once again the Prime Minister surprised the country with his firmness. Even if for some, this firmness was evoked as a return to the lead years of the dictatorship, the whole population understood that there was only one possible way to fight against the epidemic. For the time being, the government has announced the hiring of 2,000 doctors and hospital staff under a two-year contract.

Thus expressed the government spokesman, Stelios Petsas, concerning the thousands of migrants in Greek camps, especially in the island of Lesvos, 20,000 migrants, faced with the risk of spreading the virus, further accentuated by the will of the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to open its borders. Thus, the Greek authorities are facing an influx of populations on the borders with Turkey, on land, either in northern Greece, but also by sea, or on the islands.

For Ankara, the crisis with Greece can only continue, and if one does not count any more the air or maritime provocations of the Turkish army, the pressure of the authorities of Ankara to proceed to drilling in the exclusive economic zones of Greece or Cypriots, destabilize this area of the eastern Mediterranean. Everything is good for the Turkish president to make life more than difficult in Athens, which is facing this epidemic today.

Besides, Turkey is also affected by the epidemic, it would be more widely dramatic in Turkey, and unauthorized “voices” report that more than 300 people have been arrested for having disseminated damning information, revealing the true face of disease across the country. Greek social networks report photos showing trucks traveling around Istanbul filled with coffins, which naturally caused panic among Turks. (source Panagiotis Grigoriou).

For the time being, the Greek police and army have to face the police and the Turkish army at the borders, the commitments are violent, and Greece has erected a solid wall and barbed wire on its northern border. The health bomb is ready to explode in Greece among the migrants, a bomb that would suit the sultan well.

For the moment the war is declared in Greece against the coronavirus, let us hope that a second with Turkey does not come to weaken even more the country which for the moment “holds out” thanks to the moral force of the Greek people who knows say “No”! … And whether in Greece, Italy or Spain, European solidarity remains an idea, just an idea …
